State Commission on Patient Safety |

Vision
Vision:
Everyone in Michigan—whether providing, receiving or paying
for health care—is focused on the prevention of patient
harm, relentlessly questioning how we can do things better and
safer.
In September
2004, the Governor designated the Michigan Health and Safety Coalition
to act as the State Commission on Patient Safety. The MH&SC
is honored to have served in this capacity.
In November
2005, the Commission issued its final
report. In preparing the report, the Commission took public
testimony and held two public
meetings to present progress
reports and solicit additional input. On this site you will find
detailed information about the Commission’s process and
additional materials for the media.
The Michigan
Department of Community Health will accept public comment on the
Commission’s final report until December 29, 2005. Submit

Although the
MH&SC has completed its formal work as the Commission, we
look forward to capitalizing on our network of relationships to
improve the safety of health care for all who seek care in Michigan.
Governor Jennifer
M. Granholm invited the Michigan Health and Safety Coalition (MH&SC)
to accept the role of the State Commission on Patient Safety.
The commission was created by PA 119-04, which was enacted earlier
this year. MH&SC is honored to be selected to serve the State
of Michigan in this capacity and accepted the invitation at its
meeting of September 8, 2004. The commission will conduct public
hearings and write a report containing recommendations for improvements
in medical practice and a system for reducing errors, both in
health facilities and in private practice. The Commission held
three public hearings to seek input from the public, health professions
organizations, health providers and organizations that are interested
in patient safety. Participants were invited to submit written
or verbal testimony.
